Most contractors work during the day, from 9am-5pm.  This is so they work during the bulk of normal work hours, and they don’t disturb any neighbors.  If your work schedule differs from the stereotypical 9 to 5, be sure to talk to your contractor.  You may not be able to work from home due to the noise, and it’s possible it could disturb some clients.  Think ahead!

2. Be flexible.

While you need to keep your daily schedule in play, it’s also important to note that you may sometimes have to switch it up.  You can’t always stick to your schedule when you have a remodeling project going on.  You should also be flexible in regards to where you’re going to allow your contractor to move within your home.  Designate a storage area and allow them to use it, just to make things go smoothly.

3. Alert all family members.

It’s quite the surprise to come home from school or work, only to find a home full of contractors!  Keep your family updated at all times on when your project is being worked on.  This will minimize your family getting in the way of renovation, and vice versa in regards to your daily life.  Have kids go to a friend’s house after school, just to be sure they aren’t in danger.
