Granite has long been considered the safest option when it comes to countertops. But now that 2017 is approaching, we’re finding that it’s going out of style.

While the new year is a ways away, you should start looking at whether or not you’re going to update your kitchen’s surfaces.  It’s a renovation that everyone should make; new countertops can make a world of difference in style and appearance.  Granite has long been considered the safest option when it comes to countertops.  But now that 2017 is approaching, we’re finding that it’s going out of style.  So, what’s in style?

Wood

Wood is an excellent material for countertops, as it brings warmth to the kitchen that wouldn’t be there otherwise.  They’re traditional and soothing, so they provide a welcome change from the hard and dark look of granite.  However, they do require a bit more maintenance.  They make up for this, though, because you can always stain them if they do get damaged.

Soapstone

This is a great material to use because it is relatively easy to maintain.  It doesn’t need sealing like granite or wood; it’s also naturally occurring and quarried.  Soapstone is a beautiful solution that comes in an impressive range of shades.  Just be careful of tarnishing, and deep gouges that can mar the surface.

Quartz

It’s a modern marvel, but quartz is perhaps the most resistant to damage.  It requires no sealing and is incredibly hard to scratch or crack.  Quartz has the appearance of marble, which gives it elegance, but also a modernity that really brings it forward as one of the future trends in 2017.

Stainless Steel

Just like in restaurant kitchens, stainless steel countertops are utilized for their bacteria-resistant qualities.  They’re easy to clean and don’t stain.  Combined with the right materials, stainless steel countertops can provide the futuristic and modern trend you might be looking for.
